Nepali women's team to play an international football tournament in India ahead of 2024 Paris Olympics / Date, fixtures & format details

Nepal National Women's football team will participate in an international women's football tournament to be held from 13th-25th February ( 1-13 Falgun) in India. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) released an statement on Friday evening listing out the decisions made by the emergency Executive Committee that Nepal National Women's football team will travel India on February.

In the last list of the statement there has been mentioned that ANFA has ANFA has decided to accept the invitation from the All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) for the football friendlies going to be held from the mid of the February.

How many matches will Nepal play??

Though the ANFA haven't mentioned the nos. of matches, from the date intervals we can easily find out that it will be an  international women's football tournament. The tournament will run for 12 days with 3-4 nations including Nepal & India.

Tournament as a boost ahead of Asian Olympics football qualifiers

India & Nepal both of these teams will play the Asian qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics football. India are seeking for an multinational tournament as a preparatory competition ahead of the Olympics qualifications which commence from  April 3-11.

Why & who do the India call for the tournaments after Nepal??

It's obvious that India invited Nepal for the tournament since they suffered a 1-0 loss against Nepal in the SAFF Women's Championships 2022 at Dasharatha Stadium. It was the first time in their footballing history they lost against Nepal & even Bangladesh in the same tournament. They want to test themselves again against the uprising Nepalese women's team. India could have send the invitation to Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) too as they are the current SAFF Women's football champion.

Nepal & India at 2024 Paris Olympics Asian Qualifiers:

Nepal are in the group C along side with Vietnam, Palestine & Afghanistan. Meanwhile India are in the group G with Uzbekistan & Turkmenistan.

2024 Paris Olympics Asian Qualification Scenario:

The winners of each group from the first round will advance to Round 2 where they will be joined by the five highest seeded teams - DPR Korea, Japan, Australia, China PR, and Korea Republic. ( 12 teams/3 groups/each with 4 teams).

Four teams from Round 2 - three group winners and the best-ranked runners-up - then face off in Round 3 where they play two pairs of home and away matches with the two eventual winners qualifying for the Women's Olympic Football Tournament in Paris in 2024.
